Kevin E. Thorn Takes Over for Nescient Accountants Who Wrongly Submit Family to OVDP
Kevin E. Thorn, Managing Partner of Thorn Law Group was asked to take over an IRS voluntary disclosure from an accounting firm that ignorantly placed a family who had inherited an estate located in Lebanon in the IRS’ Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program. The family, who had no access to foreign bank statements to supplement their IRS Forms, FBARs, and overall submission, not able to obtain relief on their own. In handling the case, the strong cultural influences and values of these Middle Eastern clients were recognized and respected by Mr. Thorn who was able to effectively communicate these to the IRS. Within the IRS’s Streamlined Procedures Program. Mr. Thorn was able to artfully advocate for the family to the IRS agent the cultural differences concerning the inheritances., despite their lack of documentation. The result was a refund of a quarter of a million dollars from the IRS.
